Three years of GNSS interference monitoring: insights shared at ICAO

At ICAO’s Air Navigation World CNSS, SkAI Data Services shared insights from three years of monitoring GNSS interference using ADS-B data.

Through GPSwise, SkAI analyses more than 518 million ADS-B messages each day to build a picture of GPS jamming and spoofing worldwide. The presentation highlighted three findings:

  • Interference remains widespread around conflict zones.
  • Localised events also occur in places where crews and controllers may be less prepared to encounter them.
  • Effects can persist beyond the affected area: GPS can remain unreliable further along an aircraft’s route after it has left the area of interference.

These observations contribute to the ongoing discussion about aviation’s response to GNSS interference and the importance of understanding its operational effects.

SkAI Data Services thanks ICAO for the opportunity to contribute to the discussion.
