SkAI Data Services Partners with Lufthansa Systems to Enhance Aviation Safety with GPS Spoofing Detection
SkAI Data Services is collaborating with Lufthansa Systems to enhance flight safety by detecting and mitigating GPS spoofing in real time.
Through this partnership, SkAI’s GPSwise detection solution is integrated into Lufthansa Systems’ navigation applications — Lido mPilot and Lido eRoute Manual — adding a new layer of protection to both airborne and ground operations.
This enables pilots and airline operations teams to respond quickly and effectively to spoofing threats, supporting safer, more reliable, and more efficient flight operations.
Addressing the Growing Risk of GPS Spoofing
Unlike GPS jamming, which disrupts satellite signals and causes temporary loss of positioning, GPS spoofing actively injects false position, altitude, and timing data into aircraft systems.
This can lead to:
- False Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System (EGPWS) alerts
- Flight Management System (FMS) position degradation
- Restricted Required Navigation Performance (RNP) capabilities
- Incorrect ADS-B data transmissions
These issues can result in operational disruptions, delays, unnecessary rerouting, increased pilot workload, and even emergency diversions.
Real-Time Situational Awareness for Safer Operations
SkAI’s detection solution significantly improves situational awareness in both the cockpit and airline operations centers.
Airlines benefit from:
- Access to real-time, high-precision interference data
- Reduced reliance on delayed pilot reports or outdated information
- More targeted responses by focusing on precisely affected areas rather than entire airspaces
This leads to faster decision-making and improved operational efficiency.
Integrated Solution Across Cockpit and Operations
Developed in cooperation with the Zurich University of Applied Sciences – Centre for Aviation, the GPSwise solution uses real-time ADS-B data analysis to detect GPS spoofing and jamming activity.
The service is available within Lufthansa Systems’ Lido charting applications:
- Lido mPilot (iOS)
- Lido eRoute Manual (Windows)
These cockpit applications provide pilots with real-time awareness of spoofing events and support in-flight mitigation strategies.
In parallel, airline operations teams gain access to the GPSwise web platform, where they can:
- Monitor spoofing trends
- Identify affected aircraft
- Analyze interference patterns
SkAI Data Services also provides daily reports highlighting spoofed aircraft within a fleet, enabling proactive mitigation and maintenance planning.
Strengthening Aviation Safety Through Collaboration
This partnership reflects a shared commitment to improving aviation safety and operational resilience.
By equipping airlines with precise GPS spoofing detection and mitigation tools, disruptions can be minimized, navigational accuracy improved, and overall flight safety enhanced.
Together, SkAI Data Services and Lufthansa Systems enable airlines to proactively respond to one of the most complex and evolving threats in modern airspace.
